SFP module for Cisco switches supporting long-distance fiber optic connectivity for both multimode and single-mode fiber, with real-time DOM monitoring features

Key features

  • Supports up to 10 km transmission distance on single-mode fiber
  • Connects up to 550 meters on multimode fiber using a dedicated patch cable
  • Features DOM for real-time monitoring of transmit and receive signal conditions
  • Uses 1310 nm wavelength for long-distance signal transmission
  • Designed for use with Cisco switches and routers that support SFP

Product description

The Cisco GLC-LH-SMD= is an SFP transceiver for 1 Gbps network connectivity over fiber optic cable, supporting both multimode fiber (MMF) and single-mode fiber (SMF) with a wavelength of 1310 nm, ideal for long-distance LAN/WAN connections in enterprise environments. It can transmit signals up to 10 kilometers over single-mode fiber and up to 550 meters over multimode fiber using a mode conditioning patch cable. This module features DOM (Digital Optical Monitoring) for real-time monitoring of transmit and receive signal power levels, enabling precise link health tracking. The module undergoes rigorous testing and verification to meet Cisco's standards and is compatible with Cisco switches and routers running IOS.

Pros and limitations

Pros

  • Supports up to 10 km long-distance connectivity on single-mode fiber
  • Features DOM for real-time monitoring of transmit and receive signal conditions
  • Supports both multimode and single-mode fiber for flexible connectivity
  • Tested and certified by Cisco for compatibility with IOS-based devices
  • More cost-effective than new modules, ideal for upgrading legacy systems

Limitations

  • Requires a dedicated patch cable for multimode fiber connections

Who it is for

Ideal for organizations requiring long-distance connectivity between switches or routers via fiber optics, especially in LAN/WAN systems that demand stability and real-time link monitoring
