Key features

  • Converts signals between RJ45 and single-mode SC fiber
  • Uses WDM technology to send and receive data over a single fiber
  • Supports maximum transmission distance up to 20 km
  • Supports automatic full-duplex and half-duplex modes
  • Compatible with 10/100Mbps networks per IEEE 802.3u standard

Product description

TP-Link MC112CS is a network media converter designed to convert signals between Copper-based LAN (RJ45) and Single-mode Fiber systems, using an SC/UPC port for single fiber connection. This reduces fiber installation costs by half compared to using two cables, leveraging WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) technology to send and receive data over a single fiber using different wavelengths—transmitting at 1310nm and receiving at 1550nm. Supports stable signal transmission up to 20 kilometers (12.5 miles), ideal for long-distance connectivity in enterprise networks or data centers without signal loss.

More features

  • Reduces fiber cable costs by half
  • Supports rack mounting or standalone use
  • Features LED indicators for PWR and Link/Act status

Pros and limitations

Pros

  • Uses a single fiber cable for both transmission and reception, reducing installation costs by half.
  • Supports maximum transmission distance of 20 kilometers using WDM technology.
  • Operates at full performance up to 10/100Mbps per IEEE 802.3u standard.
  • supports automatic Half/Full-duplex mode setting
  • Designed for use either individually or mounted in a Rack

Limitations

  • Requires an external power adapter
  • Does not support PoE connectivity
  • Small port size may make installation difficult in tight spaces

Who it is for

Ideal for organizations or data centers that need to connect network devices remotely over fiber optic using a single cable to reduce costs and improve cable management
